I am not very good at navigating this site, so I hope someone will read this story! It is a great success story of Diane Madden of HOPE FOR DOGS. On October 7, 2009, I was lucky enough to meet Diane Madden at TOHAS. I had seen a dog on a rescue site, and Diane was kind enough to meet me after I got out of work, about 7:30pm. She and Regina Thorne greeted me and introduced me to Molly. I took a day to think it over and called to pick Molly up the next nite, again, they met me at the shelter, after hours. The only charge was to the shelter, which was so unusual since most rescue people charge an arm and a leg. I have 2 rescued cats home, and was nervous about how the dog would get along with them. Diane told me if it didn't work out, to call her and she would work something out to either re place the dog or get a trainer for me. To make a long story short, I now have my wonderful little Molly in my life, she is the joy of my life and she is so happy! If not for HOPE4DOGS, who knows if Molly would have been euthanized. Diane told me she had been returned to the shelter twice. Molly and I were meant to be together, and that only happened because of Diane Madden.
My sincere thanks, Denise Watson, and Molly too!

Thank you so much for sharing this story! Another example of why it is so important for TOHAS to allow volunteers and to take reform seriously by overhauling operations to become a true no-kill shelter.
Warm regards, Frances, Diane and Lucille

Hi, I just became a member of this msg board. I have just moved to East Meadow from Queens NY. Before this I was not familiar with animal shelters or what they did. Last Saturday, I awoke to pounding at my door. It seemed like whoever was knocking was going to break my door down! It turned out to be TOH animal control. They had served me with an order to seize my dog. I nearly died! My dog is my life. He is beyond my best friend. He is my baby. My daughter passed away almost two years ago and Marley was all I had left. During my time of tragedy, he was the only one I let in to heal my pain. Well, to comply with a court order although I had absolutely no idea what was going on and was scared beyond belief I gave my dog to the animal control guy. My husband and I ran to TOH animal shelter knowing that they were under investigation where we promptly raised hell. We were allowed to see Marley and it broke my heart to see him shaking, scared and crying. I couldn't even touch him. It broke my heart to walk along rows and rows of dogs barking and some just looking pitiful. We got Marley out of there...Thank Jesus. We had to go to court to protect Marley and I was afraid he'd go back there. Thank Jesus again he is home with us now. But, he was bashed in the eye and it was bleeding and terrible. He was given a fat lip. I don't know what they did to him, but he looked awful. I'd like to help anyway I can to help these helpless and voiceless animals who are subjected to this abuse everyday. Please let me know what I can do to help Thanks, Jeanine
